The Web Marketing Association is pleased to announce the winners of its eighth annual WebAward Competition for Web site development. More than 1,300 sites from 19 countries were adjudicated in 85 industry categories during this year's competition. This year, the ranking felt especially hard. How does one choose between usefulness, entertainment value, usability, or creativity in execution?  Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.  Judges from all over the world reviewed and critiqued some of the most comprehensive Web sites available on the Internet and the winners speak for themselves.

The 2004 Best of Show WebAward is presented to Arc Worldwide (www.arcww.com), for their outstanding work on "Behr Paint Interactive" at URL www.behr.com/behrx/.  The site was also awarded Best Interactive Services WebAwards.  Arc Worldwide worked with Behr to develop the ColorSmart by BEHR website to provide consumers with an innovative, interactive experience that empowers them to visualize their design ideas, get color recommendations, and select palettes derived from specific colors or inspirational themes before making a purchase. According to one WebAward judge "Behr Paint Interactive site was inventive and useful, well architected and highly navigable.  It offered not only beauty but also a high degree of functionality.  It was tightly designed and used technology in a subtle but highly effective manner". 

Arnold Worldwide (www.arnoldworldwide.com) was named Top Agency at the 2004 WebAward Competition, taking home 13 awards, more that any other organization in the competition.  The Top Agency Award given to recognize the consistently outstanding development going on at interactive firms.

One of the most asked questions is how are the award levels determined.  Multiple judges scored each entry up to 70 points based on design, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, copy writing and use of technology.  The top two scores were averaged together to generate the final entry score.  The highest score in the each category was awarded the Best of Industry WebAward.  Entries remaining that scored 60 or more points were awarded Outstanding WebAwards.  Entries scoring between 50 and 59.9 were awarded Standard of Excellence WebAwards.
